The Cook County Juvenile Justice Division hears cases involving minors under the age of 18 who are identified as “delinquent youths.” A delinquent youth is any minor who violates federal or state law, or county or municipal ordinance.
This division hears the following types of cases:
- Determining if a minor has violated a law or ordinance
- Handling minors addicted to drugs or alcohol
- Managing minors who require authoritative intervention, such as runaways or minors beyond the control of a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult
The Juvenile Justice Division offers a variety of services to assist in the minor’s rehabilitation in order to protect the community and to give minors the tools to live responsibly and productively.
These services are monitored by the court’s Juvenile Probation and Court Services Department.
