MOLINE, Ill. – VanDerGinst Law, P.C. has filed a lawsuit against Hillcrest Resort, Inc., in Orion, seeking to recover damages as a result of the death of Tyler John. John, of Rock Island, died at the Hillcrest facility on May 28, 2016, while swimming in a pool.
The lawsuit alleges that John was invited to use the pool by Hillcrest staff, that Hillcrest was negligent when it failed to comply with State of Illinois rules pertaining to the operation of swimming pools including the maintaining of proper licensures, that Hillcrest failed to maintain adequate lighting in the pool area and that Hillcrest failed to warn John of unreasonably dangerous pool conditions.
The case is being co-counseled by Dennis VanDerGinst and Michelle Schneiderheinze of VanDerGinst Law, P.C.
“No amount of money will bring Tyler back, but when negligence and carelessness contribute to accidents like this, someone needs to be held accountable,” said VanDerGinst.
“Accountability is what prevents these types of situations from arising in the future.”
