VanDerGinst Law is now filing claims on behalf of people who have allegedly suffered injuries as a result of having been exposed to Paraquat, an herbicide used primarily in agricultural settings.
Paraquat is a toxic chemical that is widely used in the United States for weed and grass control. It is also used for the desiccation of crops prior to harvest.
The herbicide is cheap and fast-acting, allowing farmers to plant or sow crops almost immediately after its application.
Paraquat may also be a health risk where exposure may cause liver, lung, heart, and/or kidney failure, potentially leading to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Paraquat exposure has even been linked to Parkinson’s disease, a disabling neurodegenerative disorder that affects the motor system.
In some cases, Paraquat-linked Parkinson’s disease has been misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s disease.
“The Harmful Effects of Paraquat”
People who apply Paraquat are required to take a training course prior to mixing, handling, or spraying the herbicide. Even with protective equipment like gloves, a mask, and safety glasses, users may still experience harmful side effects after exposure.
Additionally, those in the path of Paraquat’s overspray are at risk of exposure because in many cases they are not wearing protective equipment.
“Our goal is to spread the word about the use of this potentially hazardous herbicide, especially in farming communities in Iowa and Illinois,” said Dennis VanDerGinst, CEO of VanDerGinst Law, P.C. “The harmful effects of Paraquat cannot be overstated, and the current lawsuits against the manufacturers give us hope that compensation is available for those who may have been harmed by this herbicide.”
